To say that there are plenty of activities to fill your holiday in Byron is an understatement.
Whether your into water sports, nature walks, yoga or jumping out of planes- you will be spoilt.
Alternative Therapies
Aside from the towns stunning coastline, Byron made the map for its laid back bohemian lifestyle, which lends itself to a pace complimented by alternative therapies. Within the centre, and the surrounding Byron Hills you can find a plethora of Day Spas, Retreats and Temples.
With a bit of research, or a trip to the Information Centre, you can find a Buddhist temple to stroll around, or a weekly retreat to detox . Many of the Spas are open for day visitors if you fancy a sauna and a massage.
Yoga Schools also operate intense weekly courses, or drop in classes for all levels and ages.
Wildlife Walk and Boat trips
Nobody should leave Byron until they have taken a trip up to Cape Byron. Perched to the top of Australia most easterly point is the Byron Lighthouse.
In resent years a footpath with look-out points has been built, taking you from The Pass, through Watigos Beach, and up to the fully functioning lighthouse. . The walk will take a healthy 45mins each, way, but with stunning views of Dolphins out in the South Pacific Ocean it is worth the effort.
In June/July and September/October you can also be lucky enough to see the migrating Humpback whales.
For less able visitors you can also drive up to Cape Byron and enjoy all of the views from the café and museum under the Light House.
Kayaking and Boat trips also operate around the Cape and Julian’s Rock to get up closer to sea-life.
Water Sports
Byron is nothing if not a Surfing Mecca. With brakes in the north beach of Belongil, The Wreck off Main Beach, and the Pass at the foot of Cape Byron.
If you’ve got transport, nip around to the south side of the Cape, from Cosy Corner along to Broken Head.
If you are a beginner all the surf schools (and there are many) will take you to some fantastic hide always ideal for learning, and all schools guaranty you’ll stand on your first lesson.
If surfing not your game, but you want a slice of the ocean, the diving schools offer some affordable diving and snorkelling trips for beginners and experts.
Night Life
To name a few; The Beach Hotel, The Great Northern and The Rails Hotel all pull a crowd year round, with local beer on tap. Live Music a DJ’s are billed most days of the week, from local artists to mainstream Australian bands swinging by on their tours up the East coast.
That’s not to say that you wouldn’t stumble upon some fantastic unsigned acts in the smaller bars, clubs and restaurants or simply busking around the lanes.
Out of the Bars, The Byron Community Centre showcases many wild and wonderful shows from Dance Theatre Performers, Magicians, Musicians and Independent film screenings.
